5 nights and 3 days of tour cycling. Recommended start day is Tuesdays. We gladly suggest alternatives of activity or extention, the area is great for hiking.

Arrival with your car, from Bergen with boat or train – or from Oslo with train, bus or a flight.

Day 1: Arrival Marifjøra
Cycling the romantic road in Luster

Can you smell the wildflowers?

Marifjøra used to be a lively village and had a busy steamship wharf until 1995. Nowadays it is a quiet and idyllic place along the fjord perfect for your vacation. The small road with almost no traffic from Marifjøra along the fjord towards Vedvik invites both for a walk and a beautiful bike ride.

Day 2: Marifjøra. Cycling or hiking

You options this day;

1.Cycle to the local farm Bøtun for lunch ca 8 km.

2.Take the or bus (between 20.6 and 20.8) to the valley of Jostedalen where you can experience the spectacular glacier up close. Jostedal glacier (487 km2) is the largest glacier on the European mainland. From the parking were the bus stops you can take the small boat part of the way or hike ( 3 km one way). Enjoy your lunch with a view of the blue ice before visiting the “Breheimsenteret” and returning to Marifjøra with the bus.

3.Hike to Molden, 1116 masl

You hike to Molden from your hotel. The summit is described as the finest viewpoint of the Sognefjord, with a panoramic view of the fjord arms and the high mountains of Jotunheimen.

Day 3: Cycle from Marifjøra to Skjolden, 28 km

One of Norways highest waterfalls; Feigum fossen, looks small from the other side of the fjord.

You take the cycle path to Gaupne and will have spectacular view of “Røneidsberget” and the mountains inland from Jostedalen valley. Stop in Gaupne to visit one of our heritages treasure the old wooden church. You roll on to Nes and Høyheimsvik were you have great views of Feigumfossen, which you will cycle under the next day.

In Luster you find a good local bakery, widely known in the area for excellent cinnamon rolls among others. Choose your favorites and enjoy your lunch – in the café or by the fjord.

Skjolden, at the very end of Lusterfjorden, was also an important transport station were trade took place when the fjord was the road. Cloven horses with heavy loads travelling from the eastern mountains to the fjord to sell their skins and buy their fish and salt.

You can visit the Wittgenstein House perched to the edge of the Eide Lake.  One of the greatest philosophers of the 20th century, Ludwig Wittgenstein, lived here for periods.

Cycling up the Mørkrid valley is recommended, flat and easy 7 km one way. Great waterfalls and a beautiful hike to do from were you park your bike.

1 or 2 nights in Skjolden – the choice is yours. Hotel by the fjord. Dinner can be included.

Day 4: Cycle from Skjolden to Urnes and Solvorn «The romantic road» 30 km

Turquise Lusterfjord from Skjolden – you get to cycle on both sides of the fjord.

You cycle “the romantic road” to Urnes. Idyllic sceneries along the fjord, past small farms and agricultural properties where they grow fruit and berries. You pass the Lerum Juice Museum located at Sørheim that can be visited in high season.

At Feigumfossen, Norway’s second highest unregulated waterfall with its 218 m, you can hike, 30 minutes for close contact with the waterfall and for a completely natural shower! Well marked path. By the fjord you will find the café in the old sawmill, and the place is perfect for a fjord swim.

When you arrive at Urnes, we recommend cycling up the hill to Norway’s oldest stave church. Built in the 1130s, the stave church is in a special position in terms of architecture, style history and excellent craftsmanship and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979.

Take the ferry to Solvorn. The small village of Solvorn have charming wooden houses. Overnight stay in Solvorn or pick – up of bikes and transport to Sogndal for overnight stay by the fjord. Overnight in Sogndal included.

Day 5: Sogndal with boat cruise to Fimreite

Spectacular views at Fimreite – ca 20 km from Sogndal

Discover our regional center Sogndal and take the Fjord Cruice to Fimreite for a great cider experience. (Saturdays). Cidertasting with snacks at a local farm with passionate farmers (not included)

Overnight in Sogndal included.

Alternatives: Cycle Sogndal valley ( 38 km) or hike from your hotel.

Day 6: Departure or extension

From Sogndal take the bus to Leikanger and the boat to Flåm and experience the Flåm Railway.
