Bicycle tours in Norway

There are many trails for fantastic bike rides in Norway, but the most rewarding ride can be found along the king of the fjords - Sognefjorden

Rolling silently through a wild and beautiful landscape does something to you. Active holidays contribute to better health and a lot of joy. For many, it is also important that the bike ride does not become too demanding, and that the standard is good when resting and sleeping.

We tailor the bike ride with bikes and equipment, luggage transport, accommodation, breakfast and dinner, or anything else that might be necessary. You are most welcome to ask us for advice of what to think about before setting out on the trip.

But first, why is it exactly the route along the Sognefjord you should experience?

Sognefjorden – The king of the fjords

The Sognefjord has for long been an important transport route and it is believed that Gulatinget, which is Norway’s oldest legal community, was probably kept close to the mouth of the Sognefjord. The reason for this is that the fjord extends from the sea and far into the country. The deepest fjord arm is actually only 15 km from the mountain top Store Skagastølstind in Jotunheimen. Therefore, the fjord was an efficient transport route for many of those who were to participate at Gulatinget.

In our time, it is probably not the logistics that are most important, but the experience. We dare quite modestly claim that the Sognefjord is one of the most beautiful fjords in the world. The landscape along the cycle route takes you through pleasant cultural landscapes, idyllic fjord settlements and past impressive waterfalls, along flat roads with little traffic.

Our best tip is to travel slowly. Stop often, enjoy the view and let the experience take control.

Stress-free cycling holiday

We arrange most of what you need for the trip, so you can spend the time enjoying the surroundings. Via our partners, we can organize activities such as riding a RIB or kayaking on the fjord.

You can use your own bike, or one of ours. We use the Scott hybrid bikes which are comfortable and light bikes, with a comfortable riding position.

Remember that the weather can vary here in Western Norway, so we recommend including:

  • Windproof jacket and trousers
  • Gloves
  • A thin hat to wear under the helmet
  • Good shoes with a stiff sole for cycling or hiking
  • Thin wool
  • Headlamp for tunnels that do not have lighting.

We put together packages for longer trips, or a cycling weekend with two nights, for both large and small groups.

Bicycle and environment in the world heritage

Many people have opened their eyes to environmentally friendly holidays with a low carbon footprint. When you travel around the landscape by bike, the environmental impact is minimal compared to other types of holidays. Thus, you contribute to maintaining our beautiful nature, when you choose an active holiday.

Parts of the Sognefjord are actually on the UNESCO World Heritage List and that says something about what you can look forward to. Towering mountains, dazzling green water and wonderful experiences are some of the things that will welcome you.
